Claim: The trinity can be found in the Qur’aan

This is true though it refutes and rejects the concept of trinity. Some Christians look in the Qur’aan and claim that it has concepts which support the trinity, they quote verses such as the main verse which actually bears witness against them:

[4:171] “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, nor say of Allah aught but the truth. The Messiah ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), was a Messenger of Allah and His Word, which He bestowed on Maryam and a spirit (Rooh) from Him; so believe in Allah and His Messengers. Say not: ‘Three!’ Cease! (it is) better for you. For Allah is (the only) One Ilaah (God), Glory be to Him (Far Exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is All Sufficient as a Disposer of affairs”.

* First off, we have Allaah Admonishing the Christians not to exceed limits and to speak the truth. Furthermore, it is emphasized that ‘Iysa (‘Alayhi Salaam) was a Messenger of Allaah – “Rasul Allaah” just like Muhammad is Rasul Allaah (Salawaatu Rabbi w’As-Salaamu ‘Alayhi). When we see “His Word”, this means Allaah’s Command of “Be!”, the concept in Islaam known as “kun fayakoon” – Allaah Says “BE!” and it is!

Qur’aan Translation:

[3:59] “Verily, the likeness of ‘Iesa (Jesus) before Allah is the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then (He) said to him: “Be!” – and he was.”

Furthermore, we see where Allaah Mentions “a spirit from Him”. This is the Holy Spirit which is Gabriel (Peace be upon him) as Allaah Tells us:

In 19:19 The holy spirit; The Holy Spirit Gabriel (Peace be upon him) says to Maryam; “I am only a Messenger from your Lord, (to announce) to you the gift of a righteous son.”

Both Jesus (Peace be upon him) and “The Spirit” Gabriel are clearly identified as MESSENGERS of Allaah. Then after this, Allaah Tells us to believe in Allaah AND His Messengers.

Then Allaah, Glorified be He, Commands that the term “three” or “trinity” not be uttered, He Orders that this ceases – Stating this with Authority, may He be Exalted. He Affirms after this that He is One – Alone with NO SON, no partners or co-equals, that He is Above having a son, and Jesus (Peace be upon him) & Gabriel; the Spirit are His Creation and Messengers, and everything in the Heavens and earth belong to Him.

Allaah Says (Translated):

[5:110] “Remember My Favour to you and to your mother when I supported you with Rooh ul Qudus (i.e Gabriel)…and when I taught you writing, Al Hikmah (the power of understanding/wisdom), the Tauraat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel);…and you healed those born blind, and the lepers by My Permission, and when you brought forth the dead by My Permission…”

* Jesus (Peace be upon him) is supported by Ar-Rooh; Gabriel who is Sent by Allaah to help him and his mother. Furthermore, Allaah taught him, and Jesus only performed his miracles by Allaah’s Permission, not his own. (Peace be upon him).

Jesus is a slave of Allaah:

[4:172] “The Messiah will never be proud to reject to be a slave to Allah”

Those who say that Jesus is “Allaah” are disbelievers:

[5:72] “Surely, they have disbelieved who say: ‘Allah is the Messiah ['iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary).’ But the Messiah ['iesa (Jesus)] said: ‘O Children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’ Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, then Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zhaalimoon (polytheists and wrong doers) there are no helpers.”

Jesus calls on Allaah for help:

[5:114] “‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), said: ‘O Allah, our Lord! Send us from heaven a table spread (with food) that there may be for us”

Jesus was no more than a Messenger of Allaah, and he needed to eat food, he was purely human with human neccesities:

[5:75] “The Messiah ['iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary), was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother [Maryam (Mary)] was a Siddiqah [i.e. one who spoke and followed truth, obeyed Allaah and His Books]. They both used to eat food. Look how We make the Ayaat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) clear to them, yet look how they are deluded away (from the truth).”

Those who say Jesus is “Allaah” are disbelievers and Allaah Asks who could save Jesus is Allaah decided at that time to destroy the world?

[5:17] “Surely, in disbelief are they who say that Allah is the Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary). Say: ‘Who then has the least power against Allah, if He were to destroy the Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), his mother, and all those who are on the earth together?’ And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them. He creates what He wills. And Allah is Able to do all things.”

[9:31] “They took their rabbis and their monks to be their lords besides Allah (by obeying them in things which they made lawful or unlawful according to their own desires without being ordered by Allah), and (they also took as their Lord) Messiah, son of Maryam (Mary), while they were commanded to worship none but One Ilaah (Allah). None has the right to be worshipped but He. Praise and glory be to Him, (far above is He) from having the partners they associate (with Him).”

…for whom is waiting a painful torment:

[5:73] “Surely, disbelievers are those who said: ‘Allah is the third of the three (in a trinity).’ But there is no ilaah (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilaah (Allah). And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall the disbelievers among them (i.e those who do not cease).”

And Allaah Knows Best. All praise is due to Him.
