A brief look at ‘Eesa (Jesus) – peace be upon him

Question:
Could you give us a brief description of ‘Eesa (peace be upon him)?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Maryam the daughter of ‘Imraan was a pious and righteous woman… She strove hard in worship until she had no peer in matters of worship… The angels gave her the glad tidings that Allaah had chosen her:

And (remember) when the angels said: ‘O Maryam (Mary)! Verily, Allaah has chosen you, purified you (from polytheism and disbelief), and chosen you above the women of the ‘Aalameen (mankind and jinn) (of her lifetime).’

O Maryam! ‘Submit yourself with obedience to your Lord (Allaah, by worshipping none but Him Alone) and prostrate yourself, and bow down along with Ar-Raaki‘oon (those who bow down)’”

[Aal ‘Imraan 3:42-43]

The reality of belief in the Books

Question:
What does it mean to believe in the Books?

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

Belief in the Books implies four things:

1 – Firm belief that all of them were revealed from Allaah, and that Allaah spoke them in a real sense. Some of them were heard from Him from behind a veil, without there being any intermediary from among the angels. Some were conveyed by an angelic Messenger to a human Messenger. Some were written by Allaah’s own Hand, as He says (interpretation of the meaning):

“It is not given to any human being that Allaah should speak to him unless (it be) by Revelation, or from behind a veil, or (that) He sends a Messenger to reveal what He wills by His Leave. Verily, He is Most High, Most Wise” [al-Shoora 42:51]

Claim: The trinity can be found in the Qur’aan

This is true though it refutes and rejects the concept of trinity. Some Christians look in the Qur’aan and claim that it has concepts which support the trinity, they quote verses such as the main verse which actually bears witness against them:

[4:171] “O people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians)! Do not exceed the limits in your religion, nor say of Allah aught but the truth. The Messiah ‘Iesa (Jesus), son of Maryam (Mary), was a Messenger of Allah and His Word, which He bestowed on Maryam and a spirit (Rooh) from Him; so believe in Allah and His Messengers. Say not: ‘Three!’ Cease! (it is) better for you. For Allah is (the only) One Ilaah (God), Glory be to Him (Far Exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is All Sufficient as a Disposer of affairs”.

* First off, we have Allaah Admonishing the Christians not to exceed limits and to speak the truth. Furthermore, it is emphasized that ‘Iysa (‘Alayhi Salaam) was a Messenger of Allaah – “Rasul Allaah” just like Muhammad is Rasul Allaah (Salawaatu Rabbi w’As-Salaamu ‘Alayhi). When we see “His Word”, this means Allaah’s Command of “Be!”, the concept in Islaam known as “kun fayakoon” – Allaah Says “BE!” and it is!

Bismillahirrahmanirrahiim.

I had a debate with a Christian poster on Islamonline Discussion Forum (IOL). Its about the Holy Spirit. Who was this Holy Spirit? Of course I know that Muslims and Christians have a totally different view about Holy Spirit. What bothers me the most, this Christian poster on IOL is using several Qur’anic verses to support her view that “Holy Spirit is God”, to which I refute.

The discussion can be followed here.

That is only one example among many others. Indeed there are so many Christian posters using that forum to spread their mission to muslims, and I am concerned with this. In the other hand, this also gives me the opportunity to learn on how to deal with them and how to protect gullible muslims from the danger of their deceitful work, bi’idhnillah. Wallahul musta’an.

Who are the Jews and Christians who will enter Paradise?

Question no. 2912

Who are the Jews and Christians who will enter Paradise?

Question:  For the time being, I do not have the resources to quote the exact Quranic verse, nor can I tell you what sura it has been taken from. However, I believe it is a common verse. I understand little Arabic; hence I found that in English. The verse can be interpretted as such:The godfearing Jews, muslims and christians will not have fear (on that day).I am not exactly sure of the bracketted phrase. Now my question to you: is it mistranliteration? We know that christians and jews in general cannot be hoped to have any sanction in the life hereafter. So, how do we understand the verse?

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

What you refer to in your question is mentioned in two similar aayaat in the Qur’aan. The first of them is the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“Verily, those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in Allaah and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” [al-Baqarah 2:62]

The second is the aayah (interpretation of the meaning):

“Surely, those who believe, those who are the Jews and the Sabians and the Christians – whosoever believed in Allaah and the Last Day, and worked righteousness, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.” [al-Maa’idah 5:69]

In order to understand these aayaat correctly, we need to refer to the scholars of Tafseer (Qur’aanic commentary). The great Imaam Ismaa’eel ibn Katheer, may Allaah have mercy on him, said in his tafseer of the aayah from Soorat al-Baqarah:

“Allaah, may He be exalted, points out that whoever of the previous nations did well and was obedient, will have a good reward, and this will be the case for everyone who follows the Unlettered Prophet [Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) until the Hour comes – he will have eternal happiness, and they will not fear what they are going to face, nor will they grieve for what they have left behind. As Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

‘No doubt! Verily, the awliya’ of Allaah [i.e., those who believe in the Oneness of Allaah and fear Allaah much, and love Allaah much], no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve.’ [Yoonus 10:62].

Discussion with a Christian about the Christian doctrine of redemption

Question:
Why do Muslims persist in denying that the Messiah came to redeem us?.

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

The doctrine of redemption, and the basis of this doctrine which is their belief that the Messiah (peace be upon him) was crucified, is one of the basic doctrines of Christianity, so much so that they would gamble the entire religion on this doctrine. The English cardinal Manning says in his book “Eternal Priesthood”: “The importance of this confusing topic is obvious, for if the death of Christ on the cross is not real, then the basis of the church’s doctrine will crumble from its foundations, because if Christ did not die on the cross, then there is no sacrifice, no salvation, and no trinity… Paul, the Apostles and all the churches say that, i.e., if Christ did not die then there was no resurrection either.” (more…)

Discussion with a Christian: The Oneness of God is the message of Jesus and all the Prophets, peace be upon them

Question No 12628

Question: Why do you shun the truth and say that Jesus is only a Messenger instead of regarding him as the son of God? Jesus is the only son of the Lord and that is the truth!!.

Answer:

Praise be to Allaah.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to communicate and discuss the truth which we all need to know and follow, no matter what our previous differences of opinion and beliefs. It is only by means of this, I mean by knowing the truth and following it, that we can free ourselves of our sins, as it says in your Bible: (more…)
